Description

A slam ball that bounces is dangerous. These use a dense dead fill and a tyre-tread outer surface so the ball stops where it lands, and so a sweaty grip still holds through an overhead throw.

KEY FEATURES

  • Dead-drop fill with effectively no rebound
  • Tyre-tread surface for grip with sweaty hands
  • Thick durable shell built for repeated floor impact
  • Available across a graded weight range
  • Safe to throw at maximum effort indoors
  • Ideal for power development and metabolic conditioning

PRODUCT OVERVIEW

Dead bounce is the defining safety feature. A slam ball with any rebound returns toward your face at the speed you threw it, which is why sand-filled dead-fill construction is standard. The fill also lets the ball deform slightly on impact, spreading force across a wider area and reducing the shock transmitted into the floor.

The tread pattern is not decoration. Slams are performed at maximum effort, usually late in a session when hands are wet, and a smooth rubber ball becomes genuinely difficult to hold overhead. A moulded tread gives the fingers something to catch on, which is the difference between a controlled throw and a ball leaving your hands early.

TRAINING APPLICATION

The ball slam is a full-body triple-extension movement performed at maximum intent, which makes it one of the few conditioning exercises that also trains power output. Slam balls also work for rotational throws, weighted sit-ups, Russian twists, loaded carries, squat-to-press variations and partner passes, making them one of the more versatile pieces of functional equipment.

HOW TO CHOOSE?

Choose slam balls if you want explosive conditioning that can be done indoors without a rebound risk. As a guide, 5kg to 10kg suits most people for high-repetition slams, with heavier balls for lower-repetition power work. Choose heavy-duty wall balls instead if you want to throw upward and catch. Use matting underneath, since repeated slams on bare concrete are hard on both floor and ball.

FAQs

Do slam balls really not bounce?

A properly constructed dead-fill slam ball has effectively no rebound. That is the core safety feature, since a bouncing ball returns toward the thrower at speed.

What weight should I choose?

Around 5kg to 10kg works for high-repetition conditioning. Heavier balls suit lower-repetition power work where intent matters more than volume.

Can I slam on a wooden floor?

Not directly. Use rubber or foam matting. Repeated impact will damage timber and hollow-sounding suspended floors will amplify the noise considerably.

How is a slam ball different from a medicine ball?

A medicine ball is generally lighter, sometimes bouncy, and designed for throwing and catching. A slam ball is dense, dead and designed to be thrown at the floor.
