Hex dumbbell weight guide
A hex pair is the simplest free weight you can own: a cast iron core, a bonded rubber hex head and a knurled chrome handle, with no collars to check and no plates to change. The 1–10 kg band
The light band is 1kg, 2kg, 2.5kg, 3kg, 4kg, 5kg, 6kg, 7kg, 7.5kg, 8kg, 9kg and 10kg. A 1kg pair is from £8.80; a 10kg pair is £45.98. These are the loads for warm-up raises, high-repetition arm work, rehabilitation and anyone who wants small jumps rather than a 5kg leap. The 12.5–30 kg band
From 12.5kg the pairs step 2.5kg at a time: 12.5kg, 15kg, 17.5kg, 20kg, 22.5kg, 25kg, 27.5kg and 30kg. For most home lifters this is the working range for dumbbell bench, single-arm rows, walking lunges and Romanian deadlifts. A 20kg pair is £91.96; a 30kg pair is £180.27. Buy this band as soon as the 10kg pair stops being a challenge on your main lifts, rather than filling every gap from 1kg first.
The 32.5–60 kg band
There is no 32.5kg pair in the catalogue. The heavy pairs are 35kg, 40kg, 45kg, 50kg, 55kg and 60kg, with the 60kg pair at £360.53. These suit heavy rows, floor presses and loaded carries once 30kg is no longer enough. They are also the pairs that make a rack non-negotiable: a 50kg or 60kg bell does not belong on a living-room floor.
Pairs versus graded sets
Buying one pair at a time lets you fill a specific gap. Buying a graded set from hex dumbbell sets arrives as a block of consecutive weights, which is how a rack actually gets used. The listed set variants are:
