The cambered W-shape is not cosmetic. Angling the grip puts the forearm into semi-supination, which takes strain off the wrist and elbow during curls and triceps extensions, and is why the EZ bar remains standard for arm training in every commercial gym.
The biomechanical case for an EZ bar is well established. A straight barbell locks the forearms into full supination for the entire curl, which places the wrist and the medial elbow under sustained rotational stress. The cambered grip allows a neutral-leaning hand position that most lifters find substantially more comfortable, especially anyone with a history of elbow tendinopathy.
At 47 inches it is short enough to use in a compact home gym without fouling walls or a rack, while still allowing full grip variation between narrow and wide positions on the cambers. Rotating sleeves matter here too, letting the plates spin independently so the bar does not fight your wrist through the top of a curl.
The EZ bar is the default tool for barbell curls, reverse curls, preacher curls, skullcrushers, close-grip presses, upright rows and drag curls. Reverse curls in particular are markedly more comfortable on a cambered bar, which makes brachialis and forearm training far more sustainable than it is on a straight bar.
Choose an EZ curl bar if arm training is a regular part of your programme or if straight-bar curls aggravate your wrists or elbows. It complements rather than replaces a full Olympic barbell, which remains the tool for squats, presses and rows. Both use the same Olympic plates and collars, so adding an EZ bar costs nothing extra in loading equipment.
Why is an EZ bar better for curls than a straight bar?
The cambered grip allows semi-supination rather than locking the forearm fully supinated, which reduces rotational stress on the wrist and medial elbow.
Does it take standard Olympic plates?
Yes, the sleeves are 2-inch Olympic, so it uses the same plates and collars as your barbell.
Can I use it for triceps as well?
Yes. Skullcrushers, close-grip presses and overhead extensions are all common EZ bar movements and are more comfortable than on a straight bar.
How much does the bar itself weigh?
EZ curl bar weights vary by construction. Check the specification on the page so you can account for it in your loading.
