Olympic Plates
A graded tri-grip change plate set: four 1.25kg and four 2.5kg plates, 15kg in total. Every plate carries three moulded handles, so loading a bar, carrying plates across a garage and using them as standalone implements are all straightforward and safe.
This is the most practical plate set for a typical home gym. It supplies the small increments needed for progression on presses and rows, protects your floor, is quiet enough not to antagonise the household, and every single plate can be picked up one-handed without a wrestling match. For anyone loading a bar alone in a garage, that last point matters more than any specification.
The compromise is sleeve length. Rubber-coated plates are thicker per kilogram than bare iron, so at very heavy loads you will run out of usable sleeve sooner. For the majority of home lifters, whose squats and deadlifts sit comfortably under that ceiling, the trade is easily worth the handling and floor benefits.
The set covers all standard barbell work: squats, presses, rows, Romanian deadlifts and rack pulls. Separately, the handles open up a whole category of plate-only training, including plate front raises, overhead carries, halos, plate lunges and Turkish get-up variations, which is genuinely useful for conditioning finishers and travel-friendly sessions.
Choose the tri-grip pro set if you want one purchase that handles barbell training, plate-based conditioning and safe solo loading. Choose the cast iron pro set if maximum weight per pound and per sleeve is the priority. Choose bumpers if you drop the bar. Pair any set with a weight tree so plates are stored vertically and stay in matched pairs.
What is the weight range of the set?
The set contains 4 x 1.25kg and 4 x 2.5kg plates, 15kg in total. Heavier tri-grip pairs (5kg to 25kg) are sold separately on the Tri-Grip Olympic Weight Plates page.
Can I add heavier plates later?
Yes. Any Olympic-bore plate will fit, so 5kg to 25kg tri-grip pairs can be added as your lifts progress.
Are these suitable for CrossFit?
For barbell work in a rack, yes. For dropping the bar from overhead, no. Use bumper plates for Olympic lifting.
Do the handles make them safer?
Considerably. Loading a bar at rack height one-handed, or carrying plates across a room, is far safer with three grip points than with a smooth disc.
The Tri Grip Olympic Weight Plates Pro Set contains eight rubber-coated plates: 4×1.25kg and 4×2.5kg, 15kg in total. A barbell and collars are not included; add the 47" Olympic EZ Curl Bar or the Olympic 2" Barbell, both supplied with spring collars, separately. The price is shown on this page.
Every plate in the Tri Grip Olympic Weight Plates Pro Set has a 2-inch (50mm) bore, so it fits any Olympic barbell, EZ curl bar or trap bar with 50mm sleeves. It will not fit 1-inch standard bars.
In the Tri Grip Olympic Weight Plates Pro Set the 1.25kg plates are 16.5cm in diameter and 2.4cm wide; the 2.5kg plates are 20.5cm in diameter and 3.2cm wide. Each has three moulded handles for one-handed carrying.
The Tri Grip Olympic Weight Plates Pro Set is a change-plate set: it lets you add 2.5kg or 5kg to a bar at a time, which is how pressing lifts progress. Pair it with heavier Tri-Grip Olympic Weight Plates pairs (5kg to 25kg) as your lifts grow.
The Tri Grip Olympic Weight Plates Pro Set is 15kg of change plates in one box, at the same cost per kilogram as the 5kg, 10kg and 15kg Tri-Grip Olympic Weight Plates pairs. Buying the same eight change plates as four separate pairs costs more than the set, so the set is the cheaper route to those plates. Both pages show their prices live, so you can check that for yourself.
No. The Tri Grip Olympic Weight Plates Pro Set is rubber-coated cast iron, quieter and kinder to floors than bare iron but not a bumper plate. Use Olympic Bumper Weight Plates if the bar will be dropped.
