Description

The sled is unique in strength training: it has no eccentric phase at all. You push, you pull, nothing lowers under load. That means very high training stress with almost no muscle damage, which is why sleds are the standard conditioning tool in athletic preparation.

KEY FEATURES

  • Push and pull configuration in one commercial-grade frame
  • Supplied with a 10m sprint mat for indoor surfaces
  • Concentric-only loading produces minimal muscle soreness
  • Loads with standard Olympic plates
  • Trains acceleration mechanics and lower body power
  • Suits gyms, studios and athletic training spaces

PRODUCT OVERVIEW

The absence of an eccentric phase is the sled's defining property. Delayed onset muscle soreness comes overwhelmingly from eccentric loading, the lowering portion of a lift. Because a sled only ever moves under concentric effort, athletes can accumulate very large amounts of work with minimal recovery cost, which is why sled work is used in-season when heavy squatting would compromise performance.

The included sprint mat is what makes it usable indoors. Sleds are designed for turf or a rubberised track; dragged directly across a gym floor they will damage the surface and the runners. A dedicated 10m mat gives a consistent friction surface, protects the floor, and can be rolled away when the session ends.

TRAINING APPLICATION

Heavy sled pushes train acceleration mechanics and the same hip and knee extension used in sprinting, while lighter loads at speed train the mechanics themselves. Sled pulls, whether backward for the quadriceps or forward with a harness, add variety. It also serves as excellent conditioning, since a set of heavy pushes is metabolically demanding without any of the joint stress of running.

HOW TO CHOOSE?

Choose a sled if you train athletes, want conditioning that will not compromise your lifting, or need lower-body work while managing a joint issue that rules out heavy squatting. You will need Olympic plates to load it. Check that your space has at least the length of the mat plus a run-off area before ordering.

FAQs

Why does sled work cause so little soreness?

Because there is no eccentric phase. Muscle damage and delayed soreness come mainly from lowering loads, and a sled never lowers anything.

Can I use it indoors?

Yes, on the supplied 10m sprint mat. Dragging a sled directly across a gym floor will damage both the floor and the sled runners.

What plates does it take?

Standard Olympic plates. Cast iron is the usual choice since the plates sit on posts rather than being lifted.

How much space do I need?

At least the full length of the mat plus room to decelerate and turn at each end. Measure before ordering.
